Wonderful Water

Since I took the class this past spring, I have been LOVING water aerobics. Fortunately they offer classes at the Provo and Orem rec center, and I went to my first class of water aerobics at the Orem rec center this week. Here are some great facts about water exercising:
  • Easy on your joints
  • Provides resistance in all directions rather than just one or two like on land
  • You burn more calories exercising in water than on land (cool, huh?)
  • It is easy on your back if you normally have back pains
I always thought water aerobics was for the old ladies until I actually tried it. Now I love it! It's quite challenging. And you definitely don't need a class. You can run in the water, tread water, use a kick board, jump in the water, kick in the water, and get a great work out :-). I'm hoping to keep up with water aerobics for as long as I can! But for the next two weeks the rec center is closed....so it will be outdoor running adventures (and I'll definitely add push ups to the list) for me :-)

  1. I remember doing a lot of running on the indoor track at BYU while I was there -- but the track was laid over cement, which was torture on my shins. After a good run, I would limp to the pool for a little leg soothing -- gently kicking around in the water until my shins sorted themselves out a little. Water exercise is definitely more gentle on the body structure.
